In a front page, July 2, 2008 article, the Wall Street Journal described how, Giesecke & Devrient, a Munich-based family-owned company that printed the currency for the Weimar Republic in the 1920s, has been airlifting tons of blank notes to Zimbabwe. Now that the firm is complying with the German government’s request to halt deliveries, Zimbabwe’s major source of its paper currency will be eliminated.
